Spring Allergies & The Gut-Histamine Connection

When the weather warms up and everything starts to bloom, most people brace themselves for the inevitable: allergy season.

We reach for the tissues, the eye drops, and the over-the-counter meds.

But what if the root of the problem isn't just what's in the air?

What if it's what's happening in your gut?

When there is inflammation in the gut, the body's histamine response goes into overdrive.

That can show up as:

  • seasonal allergies

  • skin flare-ups

  • headaches

  • brain fog

  • fatigue

The Missing Link in Allergy Relief

We tend to treat allergies as an external problem.

We try to block out the pollen, the dust, the environmental triggers.

But the body's ability to handle those triggers depends entirely on the health of the gut and the nervous system.

When the gut is inflamed, it struggles to break down histamine.

And when histamine builds up, your bucket overflows—and the allergy symptoms hit hard.

Lowering the Histamine Bucket

This is where simple, consistent support matters.

Not living in a bubble.

Just daily habits that support the gut's ability to clear histamine and calm the nervous system's reactivity.

Two of the most impactful places to begin this spring:

• Low-Histamine Nutrition

• Nervous system support with Essential Oils

Nutrition + Nervous System

Eating low-oxalate, low-histamine meals can help reduce the internal load on your body.

At the same time, specific essential oils can help open airways and signal safety to the nervous system.

When both are supported together, your body doesn't have to fight so hard just to breathe.

A Simple Place to Start

If you’re not sure where to begin, I’m sharing a free guide that was and is a helpful resource if you’re looking for a more structured place to start.

It’s called “Going Gluten-Free, Casein-Free, Soy-Free in 10 Weeks” and it walks through simple, manageable steps to support the gut and reduce inflammation.

The Classic Spring Trio

When it comes to supporting the respiratory system and calming the body's reaction to spring blooms, there is a classic trio of oils that I always turn to:

• Lavender

• Lemon

• Peppermint

Diffusing these three together creates a crisp, clear environment that feels like taking a deep, clean breath.

I also love rolling a diluted drop of this trio on the back of my neck before heading outside.

This is all about creating a baseline of support. Find them here!

What You Keep in Your Kitchen Matters

Supporting the gut and brain doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

It can be as simple as keeping a few things in your kitchen that work with your body instead of against it.

This is my go to spring asparagus ferment that does exactly that—perfect for supporting your gut during allergy season.

Lacto-Fermented Spring Asparagus Spears (Gut Health)

Why this works

This is:

  • packed with gut-friendly probiotics

  • perfectly seasonal for spring

  • lower in histamine than aged ferments

  • a crunchy, tangy side that pairs beautifully with grilled meals

Fermenting vegetables makes their nutrients more bioavailable, but for those sensitive to histamine, a shorter ferment time is key. Asparagus ferments quickly and stays crisp!

Ingredients

  • 1 bunch fresh asparagus, tough ends snapped off

  • 2 cloves garlic, lightly smashed

  • 1 tablespoon sea salt (non-iodized)

  • 2 cups filtered water

  • A pinch of black peppercorns (optional)

Instructions

  1. Dissolve the sea salt in the filtered water to make your brine..Place the garlic and peppercorns at the bottom of a tall, clean mason jar.

  2. Pack the asparagus spears upright into the jar, trimming them if necessary so they sit about an inch below the rim.

  3. Pour the salt brine over the asparagus, ensuring they are completely submerged.

  4. Cover loosely with a lid and let sit at room temperature for just 3-4 days (a shorter ferment keeps histamine levels lower while still providing probiotic benefits).

  5. Move to the fridge and enjoy alongside your spring meals! Delicious with grilled steak, salmon, or chicken.

Midday Movement Reset

Rhythmic movement helps the brain regulate digestion and blood sugar.

After a meal, try:

- Jumping up and down for 30–60 seconds

- 10 squats

- 3 deep nasal breaths

Food, scent, and movement work best together.

Everything I share here follows the same rhythm:

Calm the nervous system → Steady blood sugar → Support the gut → Build from there.

That’s exactly the approach behind the Metabolic Reset.

The Metabolic Reset - Each Month

We begin new round of the Metabolic Reset is May 9th, and it runs as an ongoing support rhythm every single month.

This is a primal-based reset focused on:

- steady energy

- nervous-system regulation

- simple meals

- gentle movement

- daily metabolic support

Many women join the group to heal from gut inflammation and find that they can more easily lose belly fat, release negative thought patterns, and have brain fog disappear.

To join, you just need the Make a Shift Reset Kit ($145).

That includes NingXia Red and access to our Private Metabolic Reset Facebook group.

You don’t need to overhaul your life.

You need rhythms your nervous system can trust.
